2025 Long Branch Green Wave

Head Coach: Billy George (4th Season / 40-24)
2024 Record: 15-8
After an extremely rare occurrence of back-to-back losing seasons in 2021 & 2022, the Green Wave have gotten things back on track, putting up 17 wins in 2023 and 15 wins last season.

Throughout the years, Long Branch has been among the best programs in the Shore when it comes to developing talent in the upper weights. This year, they'll be led up top by junior Tornick Kajaia, a 2-time State qualifier who has recorded 57 wins through his first two seasons, and senior Tyler Taylor, who has won 49 matches the last two years, and placed 3rd at Districts in 2023 and 4th in 2024. Both Kajaia and Taylor placed 4th at the Shore Conference Tournament and provide a strong base for coach Billy George to work in some new starters into the lineup. Among those that will compete for spots is freshman heavyweight LaShawn Finch, who placed 7th at Intermediate States last season.

A pair of District medal winners return in the middle of the lineup. Junior Javier Guzman has medaled at Districts in each of his first two seasons, placing 2nd last year and 3rd as a freshman. Senior Devon Smith won 20 matches last season, on his way to a 3rd-place finish at Districts. There will be several new faces looking to contribute in this stretch. One to keep an eye on is freshman Tristen Hepburn, a JSJWL Champ and Intermediate States qualifier.

Led by seniors Matt Munson (3rd at Districts) and Aiden McVey (4th at Districts), all of last year's starters from 106-132 return, and along with promising newcomers, it gives Coach Billy George a lot of potential flexibility with the lineup in the lower weights.

The Wave have been rising back up the ranks the last two seasons, and will be looking for their 2nd division title in 3 years as part of the D-Division with Raritan, Jackson Memorial, Matawan, and Donovan Catholic. The schedule has been ramped up this year with matches against Group 5 Champ Southern, Group 2 Champ Rumson, CJG5 Champ Hunterdon Central, SJG4 Champ Northern Burlington, and a spot in the Jack Welch Duals among the opponents on the dual schedule. The tough schedule should have the Wave more than prepared for the postseason, both individually, and for the Sectionals where Long Branch remains in CJG4 while defending champion Brick Memorial has moved to CJG3, opening things up quite a bit in the CJG4 race.
