2/27: Pierce & Staples Eliminated At Regions

Seniors CJ Pierce and Dan Staples had their seasons ended on Saturday at the 2010 Region 6 Tournament.

Staples won his quarterfinal bout over Southern's Jeff McElwee, but was sent into the wrestleback bracket after dropping a decision to eventual 2nd place finisher Doug Cornell of Long Branch.  In the wrestleback semifinal, Staples lost by medical default to Point Boro's Doug Rosell, ending his season and career with the Fliers.  Staples ends the 2010 campaign with a final record of 23-4 and he finishes his career as the all-time wins leader in program history with 101 career victories.

Pierce was 0-2 on the day losing to Marlboro's Paul Saraiva and Shore Regional's Luke Bush.  He ends the season with a record of 20-5.

2/23: Pierce & Staples Advance To Region Quarters

CJ Pierce edged Steve Glawson of Monsignor Donovan and Dan Staples pinned Manchester's Matt Riegert as both wrestlers moved on to the Friday night's Region 6 quarterfinals after recording victories at Tuesday night's opening round.

For Staples, it was career victory #100, making him the first wrestler in Neptune history to reach 100 wins.

Karl Waldron and Phil Seidle had their seasons ended on Tuesday night with Waldron losing an 8-0 decision to fellow freshman Steve Cimmino of Brick Township and Seidle, a junior, dropping a narrow 3-2 decision to Raritan's Sebastian Lodato.

Waldron finishes the year with a record of 21-11, while Seidle's season ends at 27-6.

2/20: Neptune Finishes 5th @ District 23 Tournament; 4 Advance To Regions

CJ Pierce and Dan Staples placed 2nd and Karl Waldron and Phil Seidle took 3rd as Neptune finished in 5th place as a team at this year's District 23 Tournament.

All four medal winners for the Scarlet Fliers now move on to Tuesday night's opening round of the Region 6 Tournament.
